Ecoboodle – minimize lunchtime waste

Reduce the amount of waste that goes into packed lunches with Ecoboodle.  An average lunch consists of plastic sandwich wrapping, food packaging and juice boxes which all add up to one huge pile of rubbish.  Ecoboodle has just made lunch time a little greener. Ecoboodle provides waste free lunch bags and accessories for children that are free from harmful chemicals such as PVC, Phthalates and BPA.  The range consists of a choice of three lunch bag styles, a reuseable sandwich wrap and a refillable stainless steel drink bottle.   The complete set retails for £19.99 or you can buy items individually.

WLM caught up with founder Sarah Harper:

What inspired you to start an eco business?
The idea evolved from my children.  I have always wanted the best for my children and also want to protect them in any way I can, so when I read an article on the dangers of certain plastics in lunch bags and accessories I went on the hunt for products that were non toxic.  I found that finding these products was no easy feat, so I decided I wanted to design and develop my own!

What have been some challenges you have faced?
Juggling children and setting up a business has been very hard.  Also trying to find a supplier who I could trust and would be able to produce my product to the highest standard with the materials that I wanted to use.

Has it been difficult to find quality green/eco materials?
Yes, it took me a long time to find a supplier who could provide materials that would meet the testing standard that I had stipulated.

What measures do you take to ensure your products are ethical?

All Ecoboodle products are tested to make sure they are free from PVC, Phthalates, Lead and BPA.

What policies do you have to minimize Ecoboodle’s carbon footprint?
Ecoboodle swing tags are made using recycled paper and printed using soy inks, all stationary and packaging is made from recycled paper. Everything in Ecoboodle’s office uses Eco buttons on the computers, reduced energy light bulbs and even organic coffee/tea/milk/sugar.  Plastic packaging is kept to a minimum.  If it can be recycled it is and food waste is composted.  Also the office has been decorated using eco paints and varnishes.

Do you have any advice for living a greener lifestyle both as a business and as an individual?
Using the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink, Respect and Responsibility!  Using these principles will help individuals and businesses lead a greener life.

Lastly, where can we find Eco Boodle lunch sets?
