Yoga for young ’uns: Yoga West tells us why kids should do down dog

Yoga is for everyone—you’re never too young (or too old) to start. Kids’ yoga classes are a wonderful way to increase children’s co-ordination, self-awareness, confidence and self-esteem while they stretch and strengthen their bodies. Using yoga, children can learn to relax, concentrate and be gentle in a fun and creative environment.

There is a wealth of research on the benefits of yoga and meditation for young people. This includes its impact on the development of young minds, on physical development and on relaxation and calmness. They include:

Physical:

  • Increases overall muscular strength and tone
  • Aids in digestion and elimination
  • Improves flexibility
  • Builds balance and coordination

 Mental:

  • Develops concentration and focus
  • Improves memory

 Emotional:

  • Encourages calmness
  • Promotes self-awareness and control

 Social:

  • Boosts confidence
  • Gives a sense of self

So bring your little ones and let them explore!

Classes for kids start at Yoga West on Saturday the 20th of August and run from 2:45 to 3:30pm; Yoga West teachers Flo and Sascha will be rotating leading the classes. They are suitable for children ages 4 to 8 years old and have a drop-in rate of £8 per class.
