Let it go at Baby Broadway: Show-tune shows for wee ones

Baby Broadway

Are you struggling to keep both a baby and an older child occupied over the summer? It can be tricky trying to amuse different age groups simultaneously—and it’s usually the younger ones who miss out. Not with Baby Broadway. The concerts, which are suitable for all ages (although organiser Anna Unwin is realistic enough to point out that children of secondary school age may find them a little ‘tedious’!) are coming to Highgate, Chiswick and Islington this week, the 18th through the 20th of August.

Two top West End performers—Robine Landi and Richard Munday—will entertain you with 45 minutes of show tunes in a programme put together by Anna. “We don’t have themes as such,” she explains, “but this time I’ve included lots of Disney hits for the older children, the usual classics for babies and toddlers and a few favourites for the parents and grandparents, of course.” If Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book and High School Musical are on your children’s radars then this is certainly something you should consider.

For those of you with toddlers who don’t seem to sit still for 45 seconds, let alone 45 minutes, worry not—Baby Broadway has been designed with them in mind. Although onstage participation isn’t encouraged, the younger audience members are free to wander around and join in should they wish. Likewise, no one expects you to remove a crying baby from the room—it all becomes part of the rich soundtrack!

Anna’s key aim is “enjoyment for all” and she hopes to create an atmosphere that “excites and delights both parent and child”, and it seems on that note she’s succeeding: “went home on a total endorphin-high”, “literally had THE best time,” “really put a spring in my step,” say mums of the Baby Broadway experience.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and children go free. They’re available at babybroadway.co.uk and (subject to availability) can also be bought on the door on the day. Doors open at 10:45am, concerts start at 11am.
