The concept of the summer camp is starting to take off in the UK, but this doesn’t have to mean sending your kids to the middle of nowhere (though you can if you want to). Nor are you obliged to sign up for several weeks; many camps that take place in the capital cater for day attendance too. On Friday we listed some great arts and crafts camps and courses happening in and around west London, and yesterday we featured sports camps. Today we bring you some summer camps that may include art or sport—but also offer theatre, games and more. Here are a few situated not too far from your doorstep:
Camp Beaumont, Richmond and Wimbledon
Camp Beaumont runs summer camps at both Kings College School in Wimbledon and Christ’s School in Richmond, and you can book for a day, a week, or multiple weeks. The Wimbledon camp caters for ages 3 to 16 and facilities include an indoor swimming pool (swimming lessons are an option), archery ranges, tennis courts and a theatre. At Christ’s School in Richmond, children aged 4 to 16 have an opportunity to use rugby pitches, the athletics track and arts and textiles rooms. Optional programmes include specialist activities such as horse riding, tennis academy, and “StarMaker” (for theatrical types).
Ultimate Activity Camp, Kingston
Taking place at Holy Cross Prep School in Kingston, this Ultimate Activity Camp also offers flexible booking and is suitable for boys and girls aged 4 to 12. Children can participate in a variety of activities using the school’s world-class facilities, adventure play area, and art room. Sport on offer ranges from badminton to basketball, dance to dodgeball, fencing to frisbee; art includes cookery, mask-making, clay modelling and outdoor art; and capture the flag, parachute games, tug o’ war, and orienteering are some of the dozen or so games to choose from.
Aktiva Camps, Chisiwck, Ealing and Fulham
Aktiva is an OFSTED registered children’s day camp, based in Chiswick, Ealing and Fulham, and is suitable for children between the ages of 4 and 12. Based at various west London schools, the camp helpfully offers flexible short, standard or extended days. Locations vary somewhat in their offerings, so check to see which has what you’re after, be it sports, arts and crafts or performing arts.
