Every week in August we’ve been featuring five things to do this summer in London. In addition to our fab list of camps and classes, these are our five spontaneous options for you to do with the kids. Staying in the city is great when there’s so much to do…
1. Pay It Forward
Give back to Mother Nature and join in the Big Thames Tidy on 31 August. Volunteers are invited to give the River Thames a final sweep for unsightly litter. This event is for people of all ages and abilities. This is a great way to learn more about the Thames, it’s wildlife and the issues facing it today.
People can help out as little or as much as they like, with full equipment, supervision and support provided. Just remember to wear old clothes and sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty. A great feel good day!
2. Be an Urban Farmer
Pig races, milking and sheep shearing: be a farmer for a day at Hounslow Urban Farm and if the animals don’t grab the kid’s attention, enjoy the planes landing at Heathrow.
3. Wonder at the Wonderground
A marvelous mix of circus, cabaret and family entertainment, filled with wonders and curiosities for all ages, the London Wonderground is at the Southbank through the 28th of September.
4. Gallop Away
Just because you’re in the city doesn’t mean you can’t go horse riding. Our top picks are Hyde Park Stables, Wormwood Scrubs and West London Stables under the Westway flyover near Latimer Road tube. Giddy up!
5. Fancy a cuppa?
Join fellow parents and children at the NCT Kensington & Chelsea Cheeky Monkey Tea Party this Friday, 29 August 2014 at the Holland Park Sports Field from 10am – 12noon. Enjoy face painting, music and dancing to scrumptious cakes there will be something exciting for every member of the family to enjoy.
