Tibits Restaurant – an oasis off Regent Street

To celebrate National Vegetarian week, I ended mine with a visit to Tibits in the West End this past weekend. I couldn’t have thought of a better way, as the food was absolutely scrumptious.

This relatively new restaurant is nestled in the hidden gem of Heddon Street just off Regent Street. The location itself is an oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle of the main road to either sit in or outside to enjoy some authentic vegetarian food.

In partnership with Swiss restaurant Hitl, the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the europe, Tibits draws upon this heritage to offer a wide-ranging menu including their own delicious juices for either eating in or take-away.

As we entered Tibits we were warmly greeted by the staff and explained how the system works.  The restaurant is a buffet style, however, rather than paying a flat price, you pay by weight (lunch £1.95/100g, dinner £2.15/100g) — which I find beneficial if you’re not a big eater.  The buffet consists of both hot and cold options; from classic staples such as tabouleh to onion tarts as well as their most popular dish; French bean salad with walnuts. There is an eclectic mix to suit any craving.

As any parent will admit, going to restaurants with children can potentially mean having to pull the rip-cord at any minute to make an escape.  Therefore, the buffet setup is great when dining with children.  No sitting around to wait for orders to be taken and food to arrive—instead instant gratification!  Tibits, gets you down to business right away.  In addition to the delicious buffet, the large venue also boasts a downstairs kids zone, equipped with a chalkboard, games, toys and crayons.  You can choose to either eat downstairs overlooking the little ones or you may adjourn after your meal for a little playtime.

Whether you’re shopping in the area or enroute to catch a play nearby, Tibits is a great option, especially if you are in a time crunch.  And best of all, it’s delicious and super healthy.
