JOURNEY WITH A WOODEN BOY AT THE THEATRE

Pinocchio at Little Angel Theatre
This panto-esque one-man puppet theatre performance was a big hit with our kids. The puppeteer frequently speaks to the audience which gets the children shouting back enthusiastically in reply. As usual with Little Angel Theatre there is clever use of everyday objects to create characters and wonderful attention to detail. It’s Pinocchio like you’ve never seen it.

EXPLORE TATE BRITAIN TOGETHER

London is filled with art galleries and museums, many of which are free. But it can feel intimidating visiting them with children. Artist and mum of three Georgina Wedderburn (also known as @bigfatsatsuma on Instagram) has been visiting art galleries regularly since her kids were babies. She shared her Top 5 Tips For Taking Kids to Art Galleries with us – have a read and it will help you gain confidence to give it a go!

We asked Georgina for her top pick for art to see over half term with kids and she recommends heading to Tate Britain to see the Cornelia Parker exhibition. If you can’t get tickets or would prefer a free day out, she says Tate Britain is still a top choice now for the Hew Locke commission and some Cornelia Parker works situated in the free galleries. There are usually family activities too – or at the very least you get given one of their lovely sketchbooks with activities.

GET BACK TO NATURE AT A CITY FARM

You don’t have to hoof it to the countryside to spot a sheep, well over a dozen urban farms are dotted across London. Most city farms are free to visit, though donations are mooo-re than welcome as many are charities run by volunteers.

London city farms have family activities, cafes, farm shops and animal encounters galore. It’s worth checking their websites throughout the year for bookable activities and events. Read our guide to London City Farms and find one to visit this half term!
