WLM’s Top London Portrait Photographer Competition is coming to a end. Over the last few weeks we’ve introduced you to our first nine nominees (here, here and here) who made the short list. Today we bring you the last two finalists, who tell us a bit about themselves and their photography styles:
Kitty Phillips
I’ve always been fascinated by people and their stories, and how you can tell them through photographs.
What I try to do is transport you to a time and place where you hear the giggles and are warmed by the smiles of the children in the pictures. As well as the light, pose or composition, it’s about capturing their unique character and personality.
I’ve spent 12 years developing my techniques to grab just those moments that tell a beautiful story about the children I’m photographing.
Barbara Pearce Scott
My story starts the same as most photographers’, running around as a child with a small 35mm camera taking photos of family and friends at school. I enjoyed capturing memories.
I work well with natural light and studio light, so my style has been varied over the years. It also depends on the characters of the family or child I am capturing. I enjoy relaxing studio sessions with parents having close cuddles with their babies, creating amazing shots when the tiny personality of baby shows. But then what is more fun than running around in a park playing ‘boo’ with a six-year-old on an early evening shoot when the sun is just at its best—I simply couldn’t decide.
