We’ve been featuring a great collection of portrait photographers in London nominated by our readers. Choosing that special person to photograph your family can be a daunting experience. Hopefully our roundup will help make the decision process a little easier. Check out our recent spotlights here and here.
Our next two nominees are Julia West from Julia & Mia and Kelly Hermitage. Enjoy!
JULIA & MIA
Even after nine years of shooting professionally, Julia West says she loves every minute of her job. Most of the time she can be found in her studio, which has lots of beautiful daylight—she has a lighting system as well for darker days. Though she also photographs older families, she created the fine art photography brand “Julia and Mia” to capture that special bonding time of a family with a new baby.
“Nothing is more special than a newborn—it’s a beautiful time when you create a wonderful bond with your baby and I love capturing those early moments. My studio is equipped with a rocking chair, changing facilities and a chesterfield sofa for you to sit and watch whilst I create.”
Her boutique photography studio is very different from a high street chain.
“I plan lots of time so we work around you and you shouldn’t feel rushed, which gives us the best opportunity to capture the perfect moments. After your shoot you will be invited back to the studio to view your collection, on a large screen, with a full range of samples to decide from.”

Kelly Hermitage is a mum of two little boys who take up lots of her time, but her passion for photography is also a big part of her life. After being told by several people that she should turn her hobby into a profession, she started Kelly Hermitage Photography last summer.
“I had my first client shoot in August 2013 and I was hooked. I have a small home studio set up where I do the majority of my shoots, however my equipment is portable so my clients have the option of location shoots. I mainly use flash photography although when the weather is nice and warm I love to take advantage of natural light by being outside.”
Having worked for many years in nurseries and schools before having her own children, Kelly is able to relate to her younger clients.
“I pride myself on offering a friendly and relaxed photo shoot—my idea is if you make the shoot fun and playful you will get a natural and relaxed-looking photo.”
