Wondering what to do with the offspring in London this October half term? Here are our top picks for keeping both you and the kids entertained.
Go on a bear hunt at the Discover Children’s Story Centre. Author Michael Rosen has worked with the Centre to create the ‘Bear Hunt, Chocolate Cake and Bad Things’ exhibit, which should appeal to kids young and old. Featuring a huge chocolate cake that you can step inside as well as a Dread Shed with Bad Things, the experience also encourages kids to create their own poems to take home. Have a hair-raising Halloween in Hyde Park. Make magical potions, check out the nature trails and more at the Isis Education Centre’s Discovery Days on the 28th and 29th of October.
Join the Young Archaeologists’ Club at Fulham Palace. On Saturday the 24th of October, budding Indiana Joneses can meet an osteologist (ancient bones specialist) to learn about Bones and Burials. The club meets monthly, but children can choose to join for individual sessions.
Make a drawing that tells a story at the V&A Museum of Childhood. The museum will be marking the Big Draw this year with daily activities from 11am to 4pm each weekday of half term. Check out the museum’s other arty half term fun here.
Create a monstrous mask at the Old Royal Naval College. This drop-in session on Wednesday the 28th of October costs £2 per child and takes place in the inspirationally ornate Painted Hall.
Take a horse-drawn ride around Richmond Park. On the evenings of the 28th through the 31st, you can go remember a simpler time on an hour-long guided ride through the park on a horse-drawn dray.
