Kids’ Hair Salon, Childrenswear and Shoe Shop: Trotters, Northcote Road

Hair salons for kids in London can sometimes be found tucked into children’s shops. Trotters, a small chain of shops in London, sells children’s clothing, accessories, shoes and offers kids’ haircuts. Learn more about this one-stop shop in our review below…

Trotters Childrenswear and Accessories

By Jennifer Barton

Of the many child-centric shops and services on Northcote Road, Trotters might just be the most multi-tasking: the store offers haircutting, shoe fittings, stocks rows of smart smocked printed dresses, Fair Isle jumpers, button-down shirts and patterned PJs, and even has accessories aplenty, from hair bows to belts (they also have an array of swimming essentials like goggles and diving aids).

The shop includes clothing from baby through 12 years of age, with a royal family feel: their latest release is a grey ‘Archie’ romper with blue train motif. Trotters is a safe bet if you’re looking for floral bloomers or adorable corduroy culottes, or need an perfect-for-pictures kids’ party ensemble.

It also happens to be a great place to pop into if you need a present for a child. You’ll find toys, dolls, balls, travel activities, arts & crafts, wooden pretend play sets and a fantastic selection of books, from board-back classics for babies like The Tiger Who Came to Tea to Drew Daywalt and Oliver Jeffers’ hilarious The Day the Crayons Quit and the Little People, Big Dreams series of illustrated autobiographical titles. There are also personalised toys, prints and jewellery if you’re looking for a more bespoke gift. And, for a child threatening to tantrum, do not fear: they’ve even got sticker books.

Crucially, the shop is well set up to suit a nervous child about to get their first haircut: kids in the hairdressing chairs can gaze at the wall aquarium full of exotic fish to calm and distract them, and they’ll leave with a treat (and a certificate if it’s their first time getting their locks trimmed). Hairdressing appointments can be booked online here (although if you go mid-week during school hours, you should be able to walk in). Each appointment is 20 minutes long and costs Β£18.

Restless kids waiting for their first pair of shoes, or trying on school shoes for the first time, can also play around in the Trotters Express toy car, which has two steering wheels for keen (impatient to leave) drivers. Trotters staff will measure and fit your child’s shoes to ensure they are the right size for your little one – and they’ll help make recommendations for brands based on wide or narrow feet. There’s a healthy selection of footwear including Hampton Classics school shoes and plimsolls, Hunter wellies, Geox trainers, Bobux first walkers, Ugg boots and Crocs.

All in all, Trotters has plenty to offer kids and parents alike. Which is why we guarantee you won’t leave the shop empty-handed.
