WLM’s Top 20 Portrait Photographers: Zelda Meyburgh

Zelda Meyburgh loves photography and feels truly blessed to apply her creativity and passion to her work.  Prior to becoming a professional photographer Zelda was a IT developer.  She specialises in newborn, baby, child and maternity photography.  To this day, every session gets her excited as the combination of every frown, smile, wrinkle and expression creates a totally unique work of art.  She has two children of her own and realises how important it is to capture them at every stage, they grow up so fast!  Her studio is located in west London, but for newborn sessions she can come to your home.

How long have you been a photographer?
I have been doing professional photography since 2007. I started off as a wedding photographer and I now totally focus on baby, child, maternity and family photography.

What got you into photography?
Many years ago a good friend of mine let me play around with his SLR and I was hooked! Ever since then my love for photography just grew and grew.

Which photographer do you look up to and why?
I admire the work of Anne Geddes, she is wonderfully creative.

What do you prefer – film or digital?
I am a digital fan, probably due to the fact that I could do editing even before I got into photography.

What should your customers expect during a session?
Photography sessions take place in my West London Studio unless arranged otherwise (newborn sessions can be done at the customer’s home if preferred).  Newborn sessions take slightly longer than older baby, child or maternity sessions due to tiny babies having to feed often. On average a newborn session can take up to two and a half hours. Don’t worry about the mood of your baby/child on the day, we will give him or her enough time to settle and be comfortable with the surroundings.  I have many photography props that I use to give the photos that special touch.

Do you have any tips for capturing the perfect picture?
If the babies/children are relaxed you will get good photos, so we do whatever we can to make that possible.  I have a variety of toys for them to play with and I find a song here and there could just do the trick. I believe that all  people are naturally beautiful, everyone with their own unique features, so my advise is to keep everything simple and only use props to enhance the natural look.
