The Learning Experience

1. Tell us about The Learning Experience…

At The Learning Experience, our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of our children, their families and the community we serve. We are East Finchley’s newest nursery that creates a joyful learning environment where children are happy to learn, play and grow!

2. What age range do you cater for?

We cater for children from 12 weeks to 5 years of age.

3. What makes The Learning Experience different to other nurseries?

We offer a fun and joyful approach to learning by introducing a beloved cast of characters in our curriculum.

Children love learning from our bright blue friend, Bubbles the Elephant, who is our cherished mascot of TLE along with a number of other character friends.

Our characters act as coaches that teach important life lessons and skills, and they remind the children that everyone is unique in their own way. Each character has their own abilities, personalities, and talents; this fosters diversity, empathy, and acceptance in our little learners.

4. What is the child / staff ratio?

Our staff /child ratio is as follows:

0-2 years = 1 staff member to 3 children

2-3 years = 1 staff member to 4 children

3-5 years = 1 staff member to 8 children

5. What curriculum do you follow?

Our discovery based L.E.A.P. (Learning Experience Academic Program) curriculum is developed with the whole child in mind and helps children advance intellectually, socially and cognitively, or as we say at TLE®: Learn, Play and Grow!

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) seven areas of learning and is intentionally developed to focus on the 5 main areas of early childhood development: cognitive, social/emotional, literacy, fine motor and gross motor skills.

The nursery is registered with Ofsted and can be inspected for the first time anywhere between opening and up to 30 months.

6. What types of activities do you do with the children?

Every day, our curriculum engages children in hands-on learning activities that encourage them to explore and solve problems at their own rate of development.

Our daily curriculum lessons introduce British Sign Language, foreign languages including Spanish and Mandarin, phonics, STEM, physical fitness, philanthropy, and manners. Our little learners also participate in weekly enrichment programmes that include coding, mathematics, yoga, music, art and more at no additional cost.

The nursery also has a large outdoor garden, where children are able to enjoy fresh air and daily exercise, which is important to their health and wellbeing.

At times when weather prevents the children from playing outside, the nursery enjoys the space of Make Believe Boulevard, where children can engage in roleplay activities which support imagination and creativity.

The large indoor space also doubles up as an area where children can enhance their large motor skills.

7. How do you keep parents informed of their child’s progress?

We keep our parents informed on all of the fun and learning taking place in our nursery through an innovative Show N Tell Parent App that sends photos and updates throughout the day.

Parent also receive a verbal handover with their child’s key person or key person’s buddy at the end beginning and end of each day and will be invited to attend a parent conference twice a year to discuss their child’s progress.

Additionally, parents stay connected with us on our social media channels and you too can follow along with us here: Facebook / Instagram.

8. What Covid measures do you have in place?

The nursery has taken proactive stance to deal with Covid-19 and have established a policy ensuring the safety of all children and staff.

9. Anything else you’d like to add?

The nursery also has a full-time chef, who has devised healthy menus that are accredited by Healthy Early Years London.

The children are offered, breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and tea depending on what sessions they attend in the setting.

Our chef is highly trained and is able to cater for all diets, including those of children with allergies and preferences. The kitchen also has a 5-star food hygiene rating.
