Here’s a culinary treat that’s sure to warm you: West London’s renowned River Café has brought back its winter set lunch menu. It’s not often you can dine in a Michelin-starred restaurant for a moderate price. On weekdays from now through the 29th of April, tuck in to some of the finest Italian fare this side of Parma, with two courses for £28, three for £34, or four for £42.
Feast on calamari ai ferri (chargrilled squid with fresh red chilli and rocket), spaghetti con granchio (with crab, parsley, chilli and lemon), branzino al forno (wood-roasted wild sea bass with capers and marjoram and slow-cooked Florence fennel), and save room for the pear and grappa sorbet. The menu changes daily, based on what’s fresh and best.
Set beside the Thames in Fulham, the River Café has a deservedly global reputation but feels like a local place. Its co-head chef is Hammersmith mum Sian Wyn Owen (read our profile of Sian), and the friendly and laid-back staff make you feel at home whether you’re with your partner, some friends, or even have the kids along. The open-plan kitchen with its fuchsia wood-fired oven and the floor-to-ceiling windows—the building was designed by Richard Rogers—add to the elegant yet comfortable ambiance.
This opportunity ends when spring begins, so book soon for an exquisite lunch that’s light on your purse.
