Skipping lunch has become a badge of honour in the workplace today. However, not only is this bad practice, it’s also bad for business. Taking a break increases productivity and is good for your health. Luckily for us Londoners, there’s no shortage of things to do while on lunch. Whether it’s a fab restaurant in Marylebone or a quick spin class in Soho, there’s so much to do. Flexioffices asked for our tips and advice to #LiveYourLunchBreak, encouraging fellow Londoners to take lunch and see what effect it has on their overall productivity and happiness. Enjoy our five of our top reasons why you need to step away from your desk:
1. Refuel yourself
Lunch is your midday refuel for the rest of the afternoon. Taking a break will provide your body with nutrients to make the other half of your workday more productive. Regulating your glucose levels when they dip will ensure you don’t reach for that high carb, sugar snack at 3pm, which are not only nutrient empty, but not great for your waistline either. So eat a healthy lunch, feel energised and skip the temptation.
2. Increased Productivity
In today’s fast paced world and information overload, stepping back and taking a break is not only good for your health, it’s also great for your productivity. A quick 20-minute break will improve your concentration and clarity when you return to your task, making you more productive and less distracted. If you’re lucky to work for a company that has sleep rooms, a nap can work wonders for you – from reducing stress levels to better decision making.
3. Boost Your Metabolism
Hit the gym in the afternoon—it’s the best time. An afternoon workout bumps up your metabolism to keep your engine going for the rest of the day, as well as a dose of serotonin and helps you deal with the stresses of the day.
4. Go light on your wallet
Lunch menus are often cheaper than their evening counterparts, a lunch out can be a more affordable option, while still allowing you to enjoy some of the top restaurants across London. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite lunches for under £20
5. Connect
Disconnect to connect. Lunch is a great chance to meet up with an old friend, spend some time with a colleague, connect with nature or just be by yourself to contemplate on your day so far. Unplug and enjoy your break.
