Children love to cook. Anything that feels like being a grown up and also has an element of mess to it—kids will be in there in a flash. Not only is cooking fun, but it’s also a great way to keep kids interested in food and hopefully avoid the “picky eater” scenario we all fear. The Kids Cookery School (KCS) focuses on using fresh and healthy ingredients and emphasize the importance of a balanced diet, by eating from all the the five food groups and limiting the amount of salt and sugar in recipes. KCS in Acton is a great way to get children involved and they can start as early as age three!
About the school:
The Kids Cookery School is a registered charity which aims to reach out to children in need in the West London area. The school teaches approximately 2,500 children each year in its vast purpose built facilities. Children leave the program with valuable life skills and appreciation of cooking. In addition to lessons, the school can also be hired out for birthday parties.
KCS runs various programs throughout the year which anyone can participate in. It is also open during half term holidays, but book fast as spaces will fill up. A new initiative the school has started is “KCS on Wheels” which is a mobile kitchen that allows the school to take its services all over London-bringing the KCS experience to schools, community centres or groups. During term time, the mobile kitchen is out delivering cooking sessions to schools as well as groups, while the facilities in Acton are mainly used for lessons during school holidays.
