Eat: Street Eats, Hammersmith

Despite its rather tucked-away location, Street Eats is definitely eye-catching, thanks in part to its use of colourful upturned oil drums as outdoor seating. I’m sure I would have walked straight past if these hadn’t caught my attention. And what a shame that would have been as this place is a find-and-a-half indeed.

Now, it hasn’t really been the weather to fully appreciate outdoor-seating of any sort recently, so I can’t vouch for the comfort of said oil drums, but I can vouch for the top quality, great value grub on offer here. The menu is simple but enticing, with a selection of baguettes, subs and hot food inspired by tasty street food from all over the world (you might have already guessed this from the name). I can recommend the Ranch Style Chilli, which came with lovely big chunks of steak, pork and smoky bacon and the whole thing was spicy without blowing the roof of my mouth off. My husband started off with a Cuban Sub stuffed full of pulled pork and pickle. The only downside was that it was a bit on the small side, so unfortunately he had to suffer the chore of eating a delicious marinated chicken baguette too. Poor him.

If you’re coming here with young ones, it’s great for slightly older children. I’m all for encouraging kids to eat as wide a variety of foods as their parents do and this is the ideal place to pick up or continue this habit. In addition to the tasty food, the cosy, off-beat and welcoming surroundings should be enough to persuade any reluctant to child or teenager to give it a go.  For those with pushchairs, the ‘cosy’ factor might prove slightly more problematic, but there’s always that outdoor seating in the summer months!

Excellent value for money and comparable in price to any of the usual burger and chips fare, this is well-worth a visit if you’re in the vicinity of Hammersmith Broadway any time soon.
