Date nights are of the utmost importance when you have children—even more so on Valentine’s Day. When it’s date night for us, I want to make the most of that precious time sans kids to catch up with my better half.

One of our favourite places for that kind of evening is The Fulham Wine Rooms: a wine bar/restaurant/wine shop right on Fulham Road. We like it for its relaxed and cosy atmosphere, for its wide variety of wines and good, unpretentious food.

The Wine Rooms are separated into a bar area with high tables and a restaurant area with a comfy banquette; you can have dinner (mains generally range between £15 and £17) and then head to the bar for a glass of prosecco!

Their extensive wine list features etiquettes from renowned estates and small producers. If wine is not your cup of tea, you can choose between the Greenwich-brewed beer and the Hammersmith-distilled gin.

The restaurant menu is simple and really complements the wine list. They also offer a bar menu, ideal for those who like nibbling something while enjoying a glass of wine; we always go for the foie gras au torchon (£10.50) paired with a nice glass of Gewürztraminer (£8).

The service is friendly, effective and discreet and the staff will guide you in your choice of wine. The atmosphere is warm and cosy, with earthy colours and comfortable seating. They even have bistro tables and seats outside, perfect for wine-tasting summer nights.
