Getting mum’s back into work

When getting back into work, it’s difficult to know where to start. It’s important to leave your options open. You may know what you want to do as a career, but this is the time you can mould it to your needs. Having a child and getting back into work means you have more to think about. Flexi-time and part time jobs are more readily available now; these are handy to think about too.

There are many websites for jobs – a good place to start is workingmums.co.uk.  They offer the latest jobs available and jobs of the week. It is perfect for working mums who are looking to get back into work. With a search bar option you can put in exactly what you are looking for and it will bring up all the jobs they have available right now to cater to your needs. There is also a business zone which allows you to search for providers and franchises that are available right now. The option of opening your own business might not have been apparent to you before, but with useful guides and tips available on the site, help is readily available whenever you need it.

As well as being kept up to date with all the latest employers, positions and jobs of the week, you can register yourself as a candidate. Employers can then see your skills and experience online. The opportunity to work flexi-time or part time is available too, making getting back to work a lot more realistic for you as a parent.

WM magazine (working mums magazine) offers articles, events and advice. It is a really good opportunity to read about what other women are doing, making you feel like you are part of a community of mum’s, all in similar positions to you. The Q & A section allows you to ask about things you may be worrying about.

It may feel like you’ve been ‘out of the working loop’ for a while and you have forgotten what skills you have got. But being a mum means you have acquired new ones. Don’t hold back when applying for positions you don’t think you are qualified for. Go for it.
