Things to do with kids in London in this weekend: 18-19 January

No new vegan product launches or dry January countdowns here – but we do have five fun activity ideas for families in London this weekend. Bonus – several of them are FREE. Enjoy!

Kids Go Free to the Zoo with Pooh

Everyone knows the London Zoo isn’t exactly a cheap day out but on Winnie the Pooh Day that cuddly bear with no trousers will make it a bargain visit. All your kid has to do is bring a piece of Pooh memorabilia with them on the day and be accompanied by an adult paying at the gate. London Zoo’s very own bear Winnie, was an inspiration for A. A Milne’s honey-loving literary softie.
When: 18 January
Where: ZSL London Zoo, Regent’s Park, NW1 4RY
Age guidance: all
Cost: see website for full T&C’s

Pixie and the Pudding at Little Angel Theatre

This new musical brings a tale from Scandinavian folklore to life with puppetry, catchy music (that we were still singing days later) and the twinkly mystique of pixie magic.

Interactive Art at Halcyon Gallery

We’re mentioning this (free) exhibition again, as our kids loved it so much and it closes soon. Ideal if you’re in the West End; it’s not huge but the interactive nature will keep kids transfixed for a while (we were there for 45 minutes). You don’t just stand and look at Dominic Harris’ art – you can make butterflies fly with the flick of your fingers and create landscapes with the wave of a hand.

When: Extended to run through January
Where: Halycon Gallery, 144-146 New Bond Street, W1S 2PF
Age guidance: all
Cost: free

Keats House Family Day: Frost Fair

Create a collage inspired by the cold winter of 1820 and the Thames frost fairs of the Regency period. After you’ve crafted and explored the famous poet’s former home you’re well placed for a run around Hampstead Heath.

When: 19 January; 2pm-4pm
Where: Keats House, Keats Grove, NW3 2RR
Age guidance: all
Cost: free with admission (kids free, adults £7.50)
