Learning to swim with Swimming Rocks

Swimming lessons are one of those ‘extra-curricular’ activities that aren’t really up for debate in most households.  Unlike drama or music classes, swimming is a life skill and could be life saving.  It’s worth spending the time to find a great school who can get results and actually teach your child how to swim.

In our case, my daughter has been taking swimming lessons for the past few years. This year she graduated into the ‘big’ pool and it was there I really started to notice her technique.  Although she understood the basics, some of her practice needed a little tweaking.  With summer around the corner I decided to do some daily one-on-one classes with Swimming Rocks in South Kensington at LA Fitness. Unlike her weekly lessons with six other children – these were everyday for 30 minutes and it was just her and the instructor.

The assessment

Her instructor was a lovely teacher named Rob. We discussed what my concerns were and then he assessed her to see where she needed help. Rob worked on building on what she had already learned throughout the year in her group classes and also gave some tips so she swimming more efficiently.

By the end of the first lesson I could already see an improvement.  She was kicking more, her body was in a horizontal position instead of 45 degrees and she had found her breathing rhythm.  Unlike her group sessions, Rob was in the pool with her which made a huge difference to the instruction he provided.

Individual Attention

Even though group classes are great and a little friendly competition can encourage children, I had noticed that in my daughter’s case she wasn’t getting the attention she needed in the area she was struggling with.  Plus, with six other children in the pool, the amount of time she really spent in the pool was quite minimal.  The one on one lessons were exactly what she needed to progress and give her that extra boost of confidence.  Having the instructor’s undivided attention meant she was able focus with no distraction.

About Swimming Rocks

Swimming Rocks are a premier swimming tuition school who hold classes in various locations throughout the year and on the weekends.  They also offer intensive one on one classes everyday during the holidays – so if you’re in town this is the perfect opportunity to brush up their skills and give them the extra boost they need.  In addition to children’s classes they also teach adults.  Interestingly, this summer a few adult friends decided to take a few classes to either learn how to swim or to improve specific strokes.

Highly recommend Swimming Rocks – for the whole family!
