A temporary shop in Richmond is being occupied by some Britain’s most promising small enterprises for two weeks on a rolling basis as part of Start Up Britain’s PopUp initiative. All of these start-up retailers already run online businesses, but none of them have the financial clout to take on a shop single-handed. That’s why StartUp Britain has stepped in to offer a co-working, co-funded space for brands to explore new ways of working – and a whole new audience.
What started in Richmond is soon to be rolling out across the country, offering local small businesses the opportunity to showcase.
Until the 11th November, the Richmond store located at 2 Kew Road (opposite Richmond train station) will be transformed into a haven for busy parents, featuring products designed to make life easier for mums and more fun for kids.
Current businesses featured are:
POPCORN BOX
Popcorn Box is a pure home grown passion for self-confessed shopping addict Sharon Beck. The Ealing mum set up the business two years ago after organising children’s parties herself – and getting plenty of insight into the retail sector as a shopper!
Popcorn Box stocks hundreds of gorgeous must-haves that are perfect for gifts, add sparkle to a kitchen, spruce-up a sitting room – or add magic (and ease) to a children’s party – you can even buy the present! Her business is named after her number one selling item – a reusable popcorn box!
Sharon’s very active in Ealing mums and tots circles and takes part in local events with her lovely brightly-coloured wares that includes vintage bunting, Kew plant holders, fair trade ceramics and much more.

She is behind the UK launch of one of the hottest Scandinavian brands, Villlervalla, just over a year ago and sells this exclusive range of children’s clothes through her business. The nicely-designed but hard-wearing range targets 0-8 years and wash perfectly, with enough life to pass-me-down.
“Villervalla is a brilliantly designed range of Swedish clothes for babies and children aged 0-8 that is full of colour, charm and Scandinavian chic. We can’t wait to get the collection into PopUp Britain shop so we can interact with customers and let them experience the brand in person.” says Liz.
