ORGANISED CHRISTMAS

This year take a moment to plan ahead to ensure your Christmas is cheerful, fun and relaxing.

 1. The List

Start writing it now. Make your list realistic and as simple as possible—the earlier you start, the more you can achieve. Don’t buy for the sake of it; it’s better to buy something special that they will use rather than a novelty gift that will end up at the back of a cupboard. If in doubt, go for the basics: splurge on a lovely pair of socks, a delicious-smelling candle or a scarf.

 2. Order In

Second to the stress of shopping is the meal. Short on time? You can have your whole Christmas dinner delivered straight to your door. One great company is Heal Farm, who offer complete meals—including the pudding and chutneys. Now that’s one major weight lifted.

 3. Overnight Guests

Don’t wait until the night before to clear out the guest room. Start thinking now about making their room a welcoming space so you don’t get overwhelmed with everything at the last minute. Between shopping and parties, the last thing you want to do is sort out the spare room.

4. Decorations
This is the fun stuff. Choose a day in advance and set it in the calendar so the whole family can be involved. Crank up the Christmas tunes, put on some mulled wine and enjoy decorating the house together. Bad holiday jumpers a must.

5. Beyond the Box

Christmas is a great time to reflect, and also to spread warmth and cheer—there are so many charities who really need help especially during the holiday season. Instead of buying a gift, opt for a donation in someone’s name. A lovely site is Save the Children, who have a wide range of choices—your gift could make a huge impact.

Another great idea is giving the gift of a service: this could be anything from a spa voucher to a personal stylist or de-clutterer, so they start the new year on a fresh and positive note.

 6. Relax

Most important, try to relax over the holidays. Remember it is supposed to be a holiday as well. Take some time out to reflect on the past year and think about what lies ahead. How you end this year will determine how you start the next, so try to enter the new year calm, organized and rested.
