October Halfterm Family Friendly Activity Ideas 2021

October halfterm is upon us and the heady mix of covid anxiety, turbulent weather and the days darkening earlier can be tricky to mentally navigate as a parent. We’ve put together a list of things to try with your kids this halfterm in and around London to help when you need inspiration. Wellies on, snacks packed, let’s go…

Illuminature at London Wetland Centre

This autumn, discover a unique illuminated light trail set amongst wetland nature. Giant light sculptures of wetland wildlife, interspersed with magical, playful installations, such as light tunnels and responsive lily pads will be set amongst the reed beds, lagoons and grazing marsh of the WWT centre. While you explore take in the sights and sounds of night-time nature playing out in the background.

ZSL Whipsnade Zoo – Dinosaurs, Massive Playground and More

This half term is your last chance to get up close and personal with life-like animatronic dinosaurs at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. Explore the brand-new Halloween trail and learn about repulsive dinosaur feeding habits – Zoorassic Park event runs until 31 October. We visited recently and our kids were amazed by how real these dinos look and sound!

Whipsnade is great for a full day out, you’ll be at their new-ish massive playground for at least an hour, especially if you book a slot in the adjacent softplay space. The playground is great for a range of ages and there are picnic tables in the playground and just outside it as well so it’s a perfect spot for lunch break.
