As part of our Mums in the ’Hood series, this month we talk to native Londoner Gabriella Wild Seeley, aka Shoreditch Mama a photographer and mum of four who lives in Shoreditch. She tells us what she loves best about her part of East London.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey there, I am, Gabriella aka Shoreditch_mama. I am a street and portrait photographer and mama to four—Blue 16, Poppy 13, Ace 12 and River Roc 2. I am wife to the artist Wild Seeley. I am a Londoner born and bred so I know and appreciate Old London town and all it has to offer.

Which area do you live in, and what do you love about it?

We live in Shoreditch in East London. We love it here! The hustle and bustle of London. It’s a cool place to bring up kids, culturally and historically. People assume there is no escape because we are so central but there are many parks on our doorstep.

Where’s your favourite neighbourhood place to hang out as a family?

We love taking a picnic to Shoreditch Park. It’s a lovely, large park filled with colourful and friendly people. We can also be seen down Brick Lane enjoying the market, street food and live bands.

Where’s your favourite place to escape in your area for a little ‘me’ time?

My husband and I are very busy but we always keep Monday lunchtime free for our ‘board meeting’ and to catch up with each other. We love a Monday pint so it would have to be at The Crown and Shuttle, The Three Crowns or The Ten Bells.

What local activities do you and your family take part in?

I swim at Ironmonger Row Baths, a beautifully historic building. I also take River to Shoreditch Park on a Wednesday as there is a play bus that parks up and we all sit on the grass playing in the sunshine.

Is there a little hidden gem in your area you’d like to share?

The Quaker Street coffee shop is right near Boxpark. It’s an independent business offering delicious coffee, cool local artists (whose work you can purchase via the coffee shop), and, on a Sunday morning, all are welcome to come down and play basketball. I feel it’s all about community and it’s got a warm, inclusive feel to it.
