Do: Independent Schools Show

ISS2014_logowork(final)

With over 200 schools under one roof, the Independent Schools Show helps guide families through the maze of private education.

With its scope and diversity, British education is acknowledged to be the finest in the world. Consistently high standards across teaching and facilities encourage strong academic results, while pastoral excellence ensures engaging, globally aware young adults.

Entering its eighth year, the ISS has enabled countless families to find the right school for their child. It is an essential platform that gives parents exposure to a variety of educational options, side by side. Whether with thoughts of the future, or driven by imminent decision making, parents can explore different approaches to education and make informed choices, based on their child’s particular needs.

GirlsIn addition to the diverse mix of pre-prep, prep and secondary schools attending, talks in the ‘Education Theatre’ showcase the many advantages of British education. Respected speakers discuss and identify what exactly it is that gives British education its deserved reputation, and why it is so important to identify where your child would thrive. The choice can be bewildering. Where do you start? What’s the difference between IGCSE and GCSEs? A scholarship and a bursary? How does UCAS work? Our two-day programme promises to address many of these questions.

The Education Theatre will include:

Charting your child’s passage: Alison Fleming, Headmistress of Newton Prep

Boarding at prep school: Benedict Dunhill, Headmaster of Port Regis School, & Tom Dawson, Headmaster of Sunningdale School

Why go single sex?: Barnaby Lenon, Chairman of the ISC, & Charles Bonas, founder of Bonas MacFarlane Education

Beyond the M25: Ralph Lucas, editor of the Good Schools Guide; Magnus Bashaarat, Headmaster of Milton Abbey; & Sheridan Steen, specialist of dyslexia placement

An International curriculum: Dr Kay Ricks, Headmistress of Sevenoaks School

Boarding beats the teenage blues: Rhiannon Wilkinson, Headmistress of Wycombe Abbey, & Rachel Kelly, journalist and author of Black Rainbow

Higher education, go west?: Caitriona Woolhouse, Head of Student Recruitment at Oxford University, & Donald Billingsley, Former Dean of Admissions at Yale University

Starting out—what to look for in a nursery education: Sebastian Hepher, Headmaster of Eaton Square School, & Kay King, Principal of Young England Kindergarten

A day out for the whole family: As well as an organic café there will be a crèche for kids and other activities on offer. This should enable parents to make the most of their time at the show, whilst feeling assured that their children are happy.

Tickets are free when registered in advance at: www.schoolsshow.com

An encouraged parent:

“Everyone had been telling us something different. We heard about the schools show so we visited for the day, where we spoke with schools we knew of as well as those we didn’t. Thanks to the experience we are now much clearer and feel more confident in making this huge emotional and financial decision.”

David Wellesley Wesley, Show Director and Founder:

“As a parent, I appreciate the various factors affecting this difficult decision—probably the most important one we can make for our children. The show presents parents like me with the opportunity to discover how the different schools work and where their child can flourish, as well as to learn about financial options such as bursaries. For many parents, it has already proved a vital part in their quest.”
