A PERFECT MATCH
What do you get when you combine über-famous footballers and a Michelin-starred chef? A cool restaurant serving comfort food with a tasty twist.
Owned by Manchester United’s Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs, Café Football opened a few months ago in Westfield Stratford, east London. The interiors are “pub meets trendy restaurant” with comfy banquets and a bar. As you’d expect, TV screens show the match of the hour, but this is not annoying—it adds to the cheery, laid-back ambiance of the place. They also have tables on the terrace for those warm sunny days.
Café Football’s menu was created by Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall. And this says it all: the food is absolutely delicious, well cooked, with attention to detail.
You can choose from classic pub dishes, like scrumptious burgers (from £9.95), ribs (£7.95) and shepherd’s pie (£13.95), or go for something a bit more sophisticated, like the avocado prawn sandwich (£9.95) and falafel kebab (£10.95).
Advice: don’t let the hearty portions stand between you and the divine half-time orange dessert!
The kids’ menu (£7.95) is simple, with tried and tested dishes (pasta, pizza, burgers) and the portions are generous. Children can also choose their dessert from the cute ice cream bar/sweet shop. Plus, they get a balloon after finishing their meal.
In a nutshell: an ideal restaurant for a fun, relaxed and tasty family meal out.
Full course menu for two £70.
