We all know the side effects of the post-Christmas present haul – where on earth do you put all the new toys, books, games etc when their bedrooms are choc-full of things already? If the declutter and sorting through their old stuff hasn’t happened yet, we’ve got the perfect opportunity for you to make a start…
This weekend is the London Children’s Bookswap, the clue might be in the name…yes, you’ve guessed it, it involves the swapping of the children’s books. This event takes place on Saturday 16th February at locations dotted across the capital, with the lovely folks at the Lyric in Hammersmith hosting an event between 10am – 2.30pm in the main foyer right here in west London. Just bring along your books and swap them for somebody else’s – it’s that simple!
Maybe you’ve got a few copies that your kids have outgrown, or you want to pass some old favourites onto a new home. Of course, picking up a load of new books kind of defeats the object of clearing some space on the bookshelf in the first place. Oh well, you can never have too many books, can you?
Check out their Facebook page for details of all locations and times, including events at the Southbank Centre, the V&A Museum of Childhood and the Discover Children’s Story Centre in Stratford. Or to find out more details of our local London Children’s Bookswap, take a look at the Lyric Hammersmith and Polka Theatre in Wimbledon.
So get the half term off to a literary start and brighten up your February with a bit of book cheer with this fabulous free event. Your kids could discover a favourite new author, or even a lifelong love of reading and for you, there’s always the bonus of passing on a few of those baby and toddler books too!
