Tucked away in the Grove Park area is the lovely Chiswick Farmers and Fine Food market. It runs every Sunday from 10am-2pm and features staples—meat, poultry, fish, cheeses, fruit/vegetable and a bakery. There are also choices of ready to eat hot foods such as Spanish, Japanese and Moroccan cuisine to tempt your taste buds. We sampled a burger from the butcher (£3) and an assortment of empanadas from the Spanish food stall also £3—all delicious.
In addition, there are quite a few vendors selling artisan products—from every type of olive you can think of, to a great selection of cheeses, baked goods, Italian gourmet products, flowers and more. It’s a small market but it has everything you need and isn’t overwhelming, which is nice if you go down with the children.
However, what makes this place extra special is what’s located next to it. The market is beside Dukes Meadows which has a huge playing field—great for kicking a ball around, kite flying or taking a stroll down to the river. It also features a newly built playground (with an awesome slide), sand pit and in summer a pool area that has a cute café serving up some pretty tasty ice cream. Events run throughout the summer months for kids, so definitely worth checking out to see what’s on.
The Dukes Meadows Trust, who oversee the farmers market and are responsible for the revitalization of the area, also put on nature classes for children to teach them the importance of bio-diversity in the meadows. This is a lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
