At Home with…Helen Fospero, journalist, presenter, mum

west london mum

Following in her father’s footsteps Helen Fospero trained as a journalist at the age of 17 and is a regular face on TV.  She’s presented for the BBC, Sky News and Five, and now hosts Daybreak and Lorraine, as well as being a contributor on This Morning. Recently Helen secured a world exclusive interview with Elton John and his son Zachary at their home in the South of France.

She lives in west London with her American husband Carl, and their two young children, Francesca and Jack.

Where are you right now?

I’m at our apartment in W3.

Where is your favourite place to eat in West London?

I love High Road House – simple, delicious brasserie style food, and great value. There’s always a brilliant atmosphere and the staff make you feel so welcome. I’m also a regular at Busaba. It’s Asian style food made for sharing. They’ve opened one at Westfield.

Career and children – top tip on how do you do it?

It’s a big juggle and occasionally I drop a ball or two! I have a very supportive husband who’s hands on and my mum comes down from Lincolnshire twice a month to help. We’re both freelance so life can be chaotic but my two children are both very flexible and haven’t known life any other way!

What do you do for ‘me-time’?

I don’t have a lot of ‘me-time’ but most days I try to sneak off for a coffee by myself or with a friend. One of our latest haunts is The Hummingbird Café off the Uxbridge Road in w12. Their flat whites are some of the best in town. If I have proper ‘me-time’, I love a strong massage.

If you had to make a quick escape where would you go?

Somewhere with white sand, sunshine and turquoise sea.

What’s on your bedside table?

A lamp…my watch boxes (I love Michael Kors watches) ….a Diptique candle in Baes …My Dear I Wanted to Tell You by Louisa Young (I can’t put it down) and usually some clutter!

Three things you’d take with you to a desert island?

My iPod; bucket loads of moisturizer and a long book.

Who would you most like to meet for a drink?

Michelle Obama…

What is your greatest extravagance?

I love photography and have recently bought my first fine art print by Nicola Bensley. She also took some beautiful photographs of my family. She uses natural light and shoots on film – rare these days.

What is your favourite thing to do as a family?

We eat our way round the Marylebone Farmers Market every Sunday; go for coffee and chocolate éclairs and hang out in the park. We look forward to our weekends together.

Spend Half Term with Helen!!  She will be presenting Daybreak from 6 to 7am all week starting February 18th!
