At Home with…Eloise Hall, artist

west london mum

Eloise Hall is a paper artist based in Shepherds Bush, west London. She creates using hand cut shapes from origami paper and ink drawings resulting in beautiful collages of butterflies, dragonflies, birds and fish. Her work can be found in many private collections in the UK and internationally.  Prior to concentrating on her art, Eloise had a varied career. For several years she had her own sought after millinery label, Eloise Hats, creating beautiful hats and head-dresses. She has also worked in advertising and marketing, turned Henry Moore’s house into a museum and ran a luxury vintage clothes shop.

Most recently, she launched a range of postcards and is working on a line of homewares with her designs.

Where are you right now?

In my studio which is at the top of our house and I am looking down on amazing Autumn leaves on the trees below.

Where is your favourite place to eat in West London?

Charlotte’s Bistro in Turnham Green Terrace has amazing food and our local, the Princess Victoria, never disappoints with the added bonus of being walking distance!

west london mumCareer and children – top tip on how do you do it?

If only I knew the secret!  There is a delicate balance to being a Mum and having a career and I am forever trying to work it out, guilt, work and motherhood often combine!  I make it a priority to be there for my children if they have something important going on and I really cherish special one-on-one time with each child.  It helps that my studio is at home and they both love to visit me there to draw and create alongside me for a while.

What do you do for ‘me-time’?

I love to go and visit galleries, we have a great selection in London.  I am still dreaming of the amazing David Hockney exhibition.

If you had to make a quick escape where would you go?

Depends what the reason is! For a dose of sun, l love to go to Ibiza, there is a lot more to the island than partying (even though that would be fun too), however the beaches are beautiful, there are some amazing restaurants and it’s only a short hop to Formentera which is paradise.

What is on your bedside table?

Books, an alarm clock, a notebook in case of an amazing idea and quite a bit of Ninjago Lego being kept safe for my son.

Three things you’d take with you to a desert island?

My sketchbook, a camera and a fishing rod.

Who would you most like to meet for a drink?

The Queen, she is amazing and she’s met just about everyone so there’s probably a story or two there!

What is your greatest extravagance?

Always having flowers in the house – I am a strong believer that nature in our lives brings calm.

What is your favourite thing to do as a family?

We love to go on expeditions together exploring London.
