Move over Martha, there’s a new brigade of crafty goddesses about to hit the high street…
I recently attended an I Made it Myself class in Chiswick, which is founded by two local mums Sangeeta and Laura. Classes run throughout the year and range from cupcake decorating, fascinator making to more seasonal sessions like wreath making — all are lead by industry specific professionals.
I went to the natural beauty product class where we made some scrumptious body scrubs, aromatic bath salts and handmade natural soaps. The scene was straight out of Suskind’s Perfume. On the table laid a large assortment of essential oils which we were able to sniff and choose from to make a perfect bespoke scent for our products. The body scrub from the looks of it will last a year with the little amount that’s needed when used. My rose petal bath salts have already been put to very good use…
The classes are formally delivered in an informal and relaxed setting, with approximately 8-10 people attending each session. You don’t need any skills to attend the sessions, everything is explained and there is always a helping hand if something is tricky. We learned about the beauty industry and the secrets they don’t want you to know, while making our own products. All materials are included (including jars and labels) for you to take your finished creation home. Refreshments and delicious cakes were served during the break just in time to hunker down onto the next project.
Best of all, I know exactly what has gone into the products and of course…I Made it Myself. Space is limited, so reserve your spot in one of their upcoming classes soon. It’s a great place to learn something new and meet some lovely people.
The next beauty workshop is on Saturday November 17 at The Crown and Anchor Pub with seasonal classes running soon after.
