WLM’s Top 20 Portrait Photographers: Natasha Wiening

Natasha Wiening is an international award winning photographer who specialises in high end, luxurious portraiture as well as maternity and wedding photography.  Natasha believes that every picture is a work of art.  As a mum herself, she’s very comfortable with newborns and children and knows how to get the best giggles and smiles out of her little subjects.  Her large Ealing studio is the perfect background for creating any mood.

How long have you been a photographer?
I have been photographing families exclusively for the last 8 years.

What got you into photography?
I’ve always loved photography since I was a child, but when I started  studying Graphic Design and Photography was one of my subjects, I loved it then and knew I would want to turn it into a career.

Which photographer do you look up to and why?
I love David Bailey because he has a strong eye when it comes to line,  form and all his images are extremely impactful.  I also love Olivier Föllmi for his strong sense of colour, layout and story telling.

What do you prefer – film or digital?
I prefer digital because I love playing around in Photoshop. With the right image and treatment, I can create an outstanding image.

What should your customers expect during a session?
I open my home to my clients so that parent’s feel relaxed and in a safe environment with their children. During the session I take the gentle yet creative approach when photographing newborns while the  more fun and adventurous when photographing toddlers upwards.

Do you have any tips for capturing the perfect picture?
When photographing your children, never say “smile” as you always get a cheesy face, rather be silly as get those natural laughs out of them.

Play games with your child and get your partner to take the shot at the right time rather than pose your child for the shot.

Never lean back and look at your child when getting photographed as you get nasty double chins, rather lean out slightly and make sure your chin is out-this will make a world of a difference for the yummy mummy look!
