Date Night: Pictures Restaurant at the Dorsett Hotel, Shepherd’s Bush

There’s no shortage of restaurants in Shepherd’s Bush—from Mexican cuisine at Habanera to tasty Persian at Abu Zaad. However, if you’re after more traditional European flavours, head over to Pictures Restaurant at The Dorsett Hotel. Opened in 2014, the hotel is located at the top of Shepherd’s Bush Green and offers all-day dining in a glamorous setting. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and has a special Tuesday night curry menu.

We decided to make a night of it and head over to Pictures for dinner. Upon arrival we were greeted by very attentive staff, who, even though we were almost 30 minutes late for our reservation (child handover delays), held our table and were very understanding.

For our starters we were both drawn to the Smoked Beetroot & Goat’s Cheese served with honeyed walnuts and drizzled with basil oil (£7.50). A definite show stopper, we could probably have shared, but nevertheless we each managed to polish it off.

Our mains arrived—I had the salmon (£20.50) and my vegetarian dining partner went for the roast pumpkin risotto (£15.50). The tasty salmon was served on a bed of broccoli puree with lemony mashed potatoes. The risotto had a slight sweetness courtesy of amoretti biscuits, nicely balanced by the crispy sage. Other mains on the menu include the signature Dorsett Beef Burger (£18) and corn-fed Suffolk Chicken served with sweetcorn puree and lyonnaise potatoes. Lighter options include a Quinoa Salad with feta and pomegranate (£12.50), a traditional Chicken Caesar Salad (£14) or a Goat’s Cheese and Spinach Frittata (£13).

And last but not least, we found a bit of room for some pudding. Being the gluttons that we are, we decided to dive in for the passionfruit crème brulee, a zingy take on a classic served with a shortbread biscuit (£6.50), and the decadent chocolate marguise mousse (£7.50). We couldn’t quite finish them but lord knows we tried.

Next time we’ll order one dessert and share, so we can meander over to the cocktail bar and cap off the night with one of their signature cocktails in their glamorous bar pictured above.
