When I walked through Ravenscourt Park at the weekend it was full to bursting with children playing football, basketball, tennis and cricket. Along with the arrival of the Olympic torch on UK soil at the weekend, never has there been a better time to encourage your children to achieve their sporting dreams.
Inspired by his own son becoming captain of the first XV rugby team at school, Shepherds Bush based author Declan Gane came up with the idea for this fantastic new book So You Want to Be Captain? following a fruitless search for motivational sporting advice for the younger generation. All the books out there were aimed at grown-ups, there was nothing that was inspiring for children.
So together with son Louis, Declan sat down and drew up a list of great captains and outstanding sportsmen and women who have inspired him, writing to them directly to get their top tips. The response was so overwhelming and the words of wisdom that they received so inspirational, that they decided to compile it all into a book, aimed at children giving them some really useful on and off the field advice.
